You may or may not be aware but, April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.  This is a cause that none of us can afford to over look. I would like to challenge EVERYONE to contribute a poem to this cause.  Children ARE our future!

A Child’s Cry

It happens every few seconds
Even in our own backyard
Someone has abused the innocent
And a child is now scarred

They’re forced to grow up far to quick
Robbing them of their childhood
Wouldn’t you help them
If you knew, you could?

It only has to happen once
Now they feel like damaged goods
We wonder who could do this thing
But somebody out there, would

Abused, they are forever scorned
No longer feeling they’re alive
In need of our help
If they are going to survive

How can we not
Look them in the eye
And open our ears to hear
It’s everywhere……a child’s cry

In 1986:
26% of of the world's children had been pysically abused.
16% sexaully
8% Mentally

In 1997:
22% Pysically
8% Sexaully
44% Mentally.

It is the responsabily of every living soul to do what is necessary to prevent one more child from being exposed to this pain.

It shouldn't hurt to be a child, is more than a slogan, every child deserves to be loved and protected from abusers. We all need to be more aware of what is going on in the lives of all the children we know. Sometimes it is obvious something is wrong, and if we notice that we need to inquire and act. I will accept your challenge, and be thinking about this subject. God bless you.

Hi Marina - a great cause and a lovely
poem  - this I will try to see if I can
write upon.  As an abused child myself,
it hits to the very soul.

It is a very worthy cause.
I will see what I can do, though it
may be painful --)

That's a very good poem.  It gets me right in the heart.  I know how it all feels.  I've been trying to help out with abused children as much as I can.  It just disgusts me to know that people would hurt kids.

Marina,
Nothing saddens me more than a child being abused. For chidren truly are gifts from God.
I will except your challenge, though it may be quite hard. So it may take a little time.

Why does Daddy hurt me?
Does he like to make me cry?
I didn’t mean to be so loud
But did he have to black my eye?

I only wanted to play with him
I love to make him laugh
I didn’t mean to enrage him
And bring about his wrath.

I know Grandpa wasn’t very nice to him
When he was just a kid
He always yelled and hit Daddy
No matter what he did.

Mommy says that he’s sad
Because he loved Grandpa so much
But Gramps only knew how to hit,
There was no loving touch.

Sometimes when Daddy is quiet
He’s remembering what it was like
To be rejected by his father
When he was just a tyke.

Doesn’t he know how much I love him?
What will it take to make him see?
When he thinks he’s drowning out his pain
He’s really beating me.
************

Abuse is a vicious cycle.  Statistics show that the majority of abusers were abused as children.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Tara your addition to our cause is indeed sad but true.  Children learn what we teach them.  We are their role models to life.  Thank you for posting your contibution for our cause.  It was very well written.

As an abused child myself, such as netswan, this hits to the very soul for me as well.  Have you (or anyone here) ever read a book called 'Death From Child Abuse...and no one heard'??  It's a true story of child abuse.  A little girl named Ursula Sunshine Assain, who is 5 years old.  The story is about the last week of her life.  One of the harderst books I have ever read, yet at the same time, I couldn't put it down.  If anyone wants to read it I would highly recommend it!  It is by Eve Krupinski and Dana Weikel.  Marina, I have 1 (among a million) poems on this subject, that I would like to share.  This poem is from mine (the victims perspective)....

"silent Scream"
Long ago and far away
They took my innocence of life and play.
A child no more, with secrets hid,
"Don't tell" they said, uh-oh I did.

My value gone, life full of tears,
no sense of order, just my fears.
A silent scream shakes my mind,
but search I must the truth to find.

With each step the efforts great,
I can't go on-my life's at stake.
I'm drowning in this vile past,
I ache with fear, how long it lasts.

I scream, I cry, my skin I tear,
to pull this pain from a life I bear.
Stop-don't-can't look,
No please...my life they took.

I hate, I hurt,
I'm numb with pain,
each day I wake to walk again....
but still "IT" remains!

I have others somewhere, but not sure exactly where at this moment, (I dont remember where I put them when I unpacked everything)...this one I have memorized though!

Reporting suspected abuse is the first and foremost thing one can do to stop child abuse.  Anyone who suspects child abuse is ethically obligated to report it.  Thos who report child abuse are protected in two ways-immunity from liability and confidentiality. The few minutes it may take are not nearly so precious as the life that could be saved.

There is a lot of child abuse in our society alone...Everyday I hear a story somewhere.  Just yesterday I heard a horrible horrible story.  Child abuse is a major problem in our society and innocent children are the victims.

Have I said enough yet?  Probably not, and I could continue, for this is a subject I can talk on for hours, but at this exact moment I need to stop!< !signature-->

 I'm not waving, I'm drowning!

I wanted to say first of all THANK YOU to everyone who has responded to the challenge,e-mailed me for info or help, but mostly for posting your poems.  There are a great deal of us who spoke from personal experience.....for sharing this I stand up and APPLAUD YOU!!!!!  One of my goals here was to make poeple aware, and not to be fooled that this no longer happens.  For every 1 case that is reported as many as 20 will not be....EVER.  I am also hoping that for some of us this could also be therapitic.  Here at Passions we are a family, and families are suppose to help each other.

Agian thank you everyone!!!!

Awareness is the first step towards stopping the cycle of hate and anger that causes this.
If in a small way we can contribute, to either increased understanding, or helping each other express our own experiences then we are all the richer.
An excellent subject to support!
hugz to you Marina

This is for Tara -- Tara, that poem
was so real, and so well done. Thank
you.  And, yes statistically, the cycle
continues on -- A whopping 80 percent
of the abused turn around and abuse again.

This is for everyone who is concerned.

Abuse comes in many forms - verbal,
physical, molestation - broken trust
and so many ways.

Please people who are abusing, and sadly
I know many of you do not know you are
abusing -- think before you put your kid
down - think before you raise your arm -
think before you do things to them that
hurt them to the very core - GET HELP,
there are parenting classes - and counselors
and yes, even for the poor.

We can't help you, if you don't ask, if
you are a parent and want to learn better
ways,  EMAIL me -----If you are suffering
from the past, and have never gotten help.
EMAIL me.  PLEASE it takes one step, one
step forward - to learn and get educated.

Marina, this challenge inspired a lot of thought provoking poetry from many different perspectives.  I think it would be a great idea to make a website for these poems so we could circulate it to EVERYBODY to help increase the awareness, to be the voices of the victims.

Marina,
I agree with Tara. There should be a website for this poetry. If it helped just one child it would be well worth it.

Marina,
you are to be applauded for your poem and for your devotion to this topic.  It seems to have stirred much interest among this group. . . a true testament to the open hearts and souls that we have here. . .

I hope that people will continue to think of the children as they go through their day and to always remember that just when you think no one is watching. . .someone is. . .

James, thank you very much for posting in here as well as placing a poem towards our cause.

James, yes, this certainly has brought about a lot of emotions.  I think more then people at first, realized. I just hope someone is now the better for it.  Thank you for your poem and your support.  I always know I can count on you, my friend.

Kaile, thank you for the advice. I did just that yesterday . Thanks agian.

Tara...what a wonderful idea.  I don't unfortunitly know anything about doing websites, so any info you can come up with would be appreciated.

Jeffery,  Thnaks agian and if you know about websites for this ....just holler.

Sven, thank you very much for your compliment.  But, all I did was post a challenge,.....Passions made it what it is.

ARH, thank you for posted here and for your poem....every bit helps.
