there are those that won't work
not for minimum wages
too good for that little
and then there are those
like arthur
whose eyes were too close together
and who sorta gave
you the creeps when
he looked under your skin
arthur, who would sand a car
for a burger and fries
cause he didn't understand
the difference in honest men
and cheats
he was just hungry
and arthur
who when given the chance
at fair labor
ate all twelve of
the first born baby peaches
of my barely four year old
seed planted tree
before
they saw plumpness
I guess he was hungry
and arthur
who ate the barely afforded
popsickle treats that all
disappeared the day he
hung round
cause he didn't know the
difference between honest
and not
he was just hungry
so when my daughter asked me
if God meant when he said
we should love everyone
that it meant we had to love
arthur
too
I understood
but I said
yes
anyway

Corazon - a great subject and very touching
poem - hit me right in the heart.

My grandma always said, make room in your
heart for everyone, even if it is hard to
do.

FEED the hungry here, no cost
to you - you can go in each day and
send food

Thanks for sharing -- my memories of hunger
as a child came flooding through.

Yes, a touching piece, Corazon ...
When I was a young girl, we had an 'arthur', who came to our house from time to time ... Grandpa would find odds and ends for him to do , for a few dollars in his pocket, and Grandma fed him , as if royalty ... He made me feel uncomfortable and I hid when he was around ..... Today, I wish I could have reacted differently ...
Great poem ........

I think we've all known an Arthur... driven by need. They may not be easy to love... but they're easier to understand than those driven by greed. Great poem... even if it did insist on nudging my brain out of its comatose state. *S*

You're right, it is different but what a great character he sounds..it went through my mind that children are frightened because they watch and hear adults as they respond, not all adults but some...but bless his heart which I bet is huge and probably matches his appetite. ..just like yours..
