She shows off her collection
at bedtime.
Old jewelry, figurines
pictures, buckles and buttons.
Lace and cloth in tangerine
colors, plus all kinds of
other pretty things.

She makes a big display
so everyone can see her things.
Arranges her reddish blonde hair
herself, those pigtails or braids
takes out her bows and butterflies
or rubber-bandy things.

She knows how to pin a smile
just right, with her pink ribbon lips
but she still has to collect one drink of water
and at least another kiss
from her mother and me
and three angels lined ten deep
then two seconds later
fast asleep.

Very tender and sweet.  Isn't that the story of all parents of dear little girls, though?!!

I always wanted a little girl...my brother and some of my friends have little girls and I envy them...of course I love my three sons..they are the best.   I'll probably have to settle for calling my girlfriends my baby girls.    James

bboog - well-done!  My little girl isn't quite that old, yet - but I'm looking forward  to it!

I love the picture painted here--warmth and caring tenderness--brings back some memories for me of a special time.

You could have written this for my granddaughter, Nicole! Sounds just like her! This is very sweet and very well written, Bob!

This is marvelous! I think you pinned the essence of a little girl just right

Your verses here are sweetened with the poignance of your precious little one...so nicely written.
