Remember how it used to be
before the world changed drastically
when time was lazy and unrushed
and dreams were close enough to touch

when children breathed in cleaner air
and litter wasn’t everywhere
the birds sang sweeter way back when
oh, how I loved to listen then

the parks were green and fresh and new
and mothers spent more time with you
and life’s best things were truly free
the smiles were everywhere to see

the cars were cheap and gas was too
the doors unlocked, we trusted you
and schools were safe, no need to fear
the summers long and filled with cheer

what happened to the world I knew
where lies the blame, with me or you
or does the world just change somehow
and to it’s will we simply bow

that’s progress some of us will say
it’s better than that yesterday
don’t dally in the misty past
it’s more fun when things are fast

I sigh and turn away the tears
that ache so for those bygone years
and silently my thoughts slip back
to times my soul does sorely lack

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

It's always such a pleasure to open and read one of your poems.

I couldn't agree more, but then my kids would probably tell me I'm old fashioned, or simply getting "old."

pegasus111:  I do so strongly agree with this great poem!  I too miss the times you speak of and fear we will never see them again.

Pegasus,

Now, that's Exactly what I've been talkin' 'bout. You Got It!!!

I really enjoyed reading your reflections on the past and, yes, my soul does yearn as well.

Very very well written and expressed.

God bless.

Hi Tom nice thought out poem. Good job! But I'll tell you want happened.

Fear not your enemies, for they can only kill you; fear not your wives, your husbands and friends, for they can only betray you. Fear only the indifferent, who permit the killers and betrayers to walk safely on the earth.
It is the indifferent Tom ...  they are the cause of good days gone.
