Turtle Trouble

A turtle came to call today.
We knew at once, he must not stay.
Too many cats and dogs around
And so a new home must be found.
He had a piece of broken shell,
But otherwise, appeared quite well.
We patched it with epoxy and
He wiggled wildly in my hand.
We took him to some marshland, where,
We hope he'll find a mate to share
The life this wetland will provide
And give them ample spots to hide.
They like to bask on sunny days
On logs and banks and when one lays,
The eggs are left in summer heat,
In grassy nests, until complete
And little turtles soon will show,
They know exactly where to go.
Down to the nearest water so,
They can begin to feed and grow!

Isn't nature wonderful?  We have no turtles here but I wish there were.  My son was traveling in the south when he saw a turtle overturned on the road.  He got out to turn it over and it bit him.  So much for good deeds.  Love, Joyce

OhBettyLou~
What a tender thing to do ... I'll bet that little critter was oh, so grateful~

I just adore turtles ... wait until you see the project Bill is working on right now ... will be another week or so before 'Wilson' is finished ... but I can guarantee you're gonna love him~

I did a 'Myrtle The Turtle' poem in here somewhere ... let me browse the archives and find her~

Oh ... here she is - put your smiles on~

Love your poem and your heart~

Dear Joyce:  This is the first big pond turtle we have seen in 25 years here.  He was about 8 inches long and his underside was beautifully colored with gold, red, brown and cream in a mottled pattern. Being on two creeks, it is surprising we have never seen a good sized one before. Just baby ones. Thanks for commenting.

Dear Marge:  Thanks!  We try to befriend all the animals, birds and yes, even reptiles, around us. We always enjoy seeing them so much. The add a great deal to our life here.

I can hardly wait to see "Wilson"!  I'm so glad you share these treasures with me! And us!

I'm off to read about"Myrtle the Turtle!"

Trillium,

You are such an Optimistic and I Love it!

Big Smiles. You've expressed such a positive spirit here as you've reached out to the troubled little turtle, gave it help, set it free, and already you were anticipating its most bright future and the future of its little ones.

I do enjoy poetry like this and I thank you for sharing it.

Hi Bob:  I guess I am an optimist at that! I just know that turtle is going to find a mate and we will soon have little turtles running all over the wetlands........or at least swimming!

Thanks Bob!

I so enjoyed the read, it brought to mind this sad little one-eyed frog that my baby sister found when she was little, she called him George and said that he was her BEST friend *grins* I hope the little turtle finds a mate and lives happily ever after

Sheli:  Thanks!  Most children befriend some little creature while growing up. I remember my daughter found a baby squirrel one time and we bottle fed it until it was lively enough to fend for itself. I kept telling her to keep it inside, if she wanted to keep it, but one day she took it outside to play with it and it was gone in a flash! Hopefully to find other squirrels!

Dear Betty Lou

That turtle sure knew where to go for help!  You 'patched' him up and sent him on his way!  A very heartfelt poem!  I loved it!
