The monkey got me a long time ago
Now that monkey won't let me go.

It whispers beautiful things in my ear
That monkey tells me what
It wants me to hear.

He tells me lies and each time
I want to believe.
He keeps saying just one more
Hit for the American dream.

Well the dreams have turned into nightmares
I'm losing my hold on life's rope.
Monkey your dragging me down a dead-end road.

That monkey he won't let me be
Every day I fight him
Yet he still remains my Monkey.
That got me no-where.
