Out in the Autumn Air

I climbed above the woods today
To watch the trees all swish and sway.
As autumn breezes swept the land.
I left behind the chores I planned.
The raking and the covering
Of plants that sleep, until the spring.
I watched some birds that soared so high,
Turn lazy circles in the sky.
Hawks or eagles, I couldn't see,
They were too far away from me.

The sun was warm upon the stone
I leaned against and though alone,
I felt no loneliness to be
Away from all humanity.
A marmot called.One scampered near.
They knew I was a stranger here
And as I made my way back down,
Noting shades of bronze and brown
On plants and trees, so lately green,
I thought about the things I'd seen.
Impressed them on my mind to share
When I got home, with loved ones there.
