People of the Night

When most of us are sound asleep,
There are other folks who keep
Watch through the hours of the night,
Making sure things are all right.
The police and fire staff on hand,
Answer at the first command.

Hospitals and the medic crew
Ready to take care of you!
Cleaning teams and janitors.
Watchmen, checking on locked doors.
Those who gather news and print
Papers for the morning stint.

Others use the dark to pry,
Preying on those passing by,
But they are just a small percent,
Compared to many so intent
On providing all they can
For the benefit of man!

This is great....to often people forget about those who serve us in the night...this was a nice reminder.

Thanks for commenting. I don't think these people I wrote about get the thanks they deserve.

As a night worker I thank you. I love working nights as I am more awake after a certain time. There are many of us as you could tell if you are a talk radio person. I sometimes think we are different. But we are needed. Someone has to work nights. marty

marty:  We "day" people owe so much to the guardians of the night.  So much happens during the hours of darkness and we all can rest better knowing people like you are out there! Thanks!

Dear Joyce:  Thanks!  I guess I have become more aware of our "friends" of the night, because of some pretty horrible things that have happened in our area lately. We should never take these people for granted!

Dear Isobel:  I often think the people who work at night and keep things running are a neglected group when it comes to appreciation!  Thanks for reading!

I've been one of those people....it's no fun, but you're right, there is a feeling about it, that you're doing something right and good, on top of what the same kind of folks do in the daytime.

Ratleader;  You should be proud of being "one of those people".  I think it is harder to do those jobs at night!

Oh boy is it ever -- just to walk around and breathe at 4 am after being up all night, let alone do some complex and maybe dangerous task......!

Ratleader;  It really does take a special person, to do the jobs required to keep us all safe,  at night! I don't know how you do it!
