Brotherhood of Birds

It's an amazing thing to me,
Birds, living independently,
Awake upon some autumn day
And know it's time to fly away.
You hear a change within their song
And then it isn't very long,
Before you see them gathering.
There is a different note they sing
That holds excitement, as they breeze
Across the fields to fill the trees
And chatter there awhile before
They take to air again once more.

Once launched, they never turn around.
The air is filled with rushing sound
Of many feathered wings in flight.
There's something stirring in the sight.
I watch them and I wonder when
They'll all come back to earth again.
Something tells them it's migration.
Not just here in our own nation,
But other countries too, can see
This brotherhood of birds, like we.
Their leaving adds a somber note,
To sounds escaping from each throat!

Nature's timetable.  One group goes and another comes and they never seem to overlap.  It is miraculous and you write about it beautifully.  Love, Joyce

Dear Joyce:  Thanks.  It's that time of year and we are losing our summer birds. Haven't seen the winter ones yet, but the crickets are sure busy!

even here in Florida where the temperatures are in the blazing 90,s still, the hummingbirds are gone...this is a beautiful piece my friend...thank you for sharing.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111: I am surprised that the hummingbirds leave where you are.  You'd.
think it would be so similar to where they winter, they would stay. They have been gone here for about ten days now. I always miss them!  Thanks for commenting.

Dear Betty Lou

This poem of yours really touched me!  A sombre note was coming from my throat when I could feel the sadness of their leaving!

Another of your beautiful verses!

Love Isobel xo

BettyLou~
Thought I caught a flit of feather
in the birds that stick together~
Figured out where Peggers hummers have gone
just 45 miles from him
straight to my humble home~

My gracious poetess .. you *gift* me with such beautifully winged thoughts~
Thank you~

Hi to my RonnieBird~

Dear Marge:  I bet my hummers are at your place too, with all the beautiful flowers you have! Be sure and send them back in the spring!

Ron sends a big hug!
