A cake of resin in a pocket,
four pounds twenty in his tin,
wearing fingerless gloves,
he cradleshis fine violin.

Sweet silver notes unheard,
pennies of throw away pity.
On the library step he plays,
in a time-driven selfish city.

Into neon-brightnight he plays,
overa receding traffic drone.
His gliding bow softly sounds,
a Haunting, melancholy tone

A cake of resin in his pocket,
five pounds ten in his tin.
He shuffles away to nowhere,
clutching his fine violin.

Hi junemac:  I enjoyed your poem and the travesty of someone talented being in such desperate straits. I saw that happen one time when I was young, with a hobo who came to my grandparents house and played the piano like a maestro!

there are so many street musicians in the big cities. so many untold stories. this is why we write is it not? beautifully written.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

As a musician myself, this touched my heart. What things we could hear, if we took time to listen to whats below the bustle...

I'm glad you did

Love's a lovely lad
His bringing up is beauty
Who loves him not is mad
For I must pay him duty
