(Re-written from 2001)

Jam Makin' Time

The berry fields are ripening now,
Their sweet fruit all aglow.
I like to see it turned to jam,
Pretty jars in a row.

He is not here to eat it now,
Why am I standing here
By this hot stove, still making jam,
As I have for many a year?

A jar or two would do for me,
So why do I take the trouble
To stay right here and stir and stir
And watch it boil and bubble?

I'll package it for birthday gifts,
And indeed for Christmas too.
Loved ones will never want for jam,
Any day, the whole year through.

Some for Holly and her twins,
For Danny and Donna and Glo.
A special jar for Vivian Rose
And another for Hannah Jo.

I am so very thankful
Even though my own son's gone,
He left his children and others
To keep me jammin' on.

Dear Joyce:  Tis the season all right! My raspberries are now ripening so I will be making jam very soon.  We only eat sugar-free jam ourselves but I still make it for the rest of the family, as you do!

Dear Joyce

My mother use to make jam every now and then when I was a child.

I liked your poem.  It reminded me of Betty Lou's raspberry patch and the jams she makes.  You and Betty Lou should have a 'jam session'.  Eh! Eh!

Love Isobel xo

OkayGirlieGirl~
As long as you're re-jamming ... did you 'forget' to add "and a jar for MARGE" in there ??????

I'll admit that it's difficult to rhyme Marge ... but how's about -

And for my friend in Florida
who goes by the name of Marge
I'll pack a jar just for her
and make it VERY LARGE ~

LOL ... love ya' gal~

I sent a jar to my siter-in-law in Arizona, once.  It arrived broken.  I guess I'll have to put it in a can.  Thanks for the new verse.  Love, Joyce
