My Runes

A special set of runes
made especially for me
ingredients so magick
I'm sure you will agree

Stones gathered together
by a hands that really care
painted with friendship
unique signs they wear

Painted by a genttle soul
with laughter in her voice
these pebbles were always mine
they never had a choice

The day that I recieved them
was a day I'll not forget
A wonderful day of summer
with a beautiful warm sunset

I carried the stones with me
down a path under moonlight
with the giver of this magic
I trod the path to new light

And when we reached the circle
I held them close to my heart
as I waited for the sun to rise
A new spiritual phase to start

At stonehenge this very year
as the golden sun rose high
I knew that I had special runes
and a friendship that'll never die.

This is about a friendhip and a gift of a set of runes that I was given on our trip to Stonehenge June 21st 2005......  Dedicated to Jo My Very Best Friend.

June~
What a wonderful gift your friend has presented you with~

My grandmother called them 'the telling stones'~

You stirred memories and for those who do not know what the runes are ... here is one of the many links that offer an explanation of the origin and usage of the Runes Alphabet -

junemac:  How wonderful to have been gifted with a set of runes from your best friend.
I don't have any but I do have an affinity for stones and everywhere I go, I pick up one or two to put in my pocket and bring home. Many of them are heart-shaped and I love the feel of them. I really enjoyed your poem.

Thank you Marge for adding the additional inormation on runes!

Love
Betty Lou

Thank you all  very much for the warm comments and thoughts on this poem. Runes are stones carved or painted on wood or stones with ancient symbols that tell of the future. I am just learning their meanings at the moment but it is a fascinating art. Thanks Marge for the link too. I guess here in UK the runes are more known and used. I love the expression 'telling stones'
Hugs and thanks to all from June xxxx
