SUMMER SOLSTICE 2005.
FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, I VISITED STONEHENGE IN WILTSHIRE, ENGLAND, THIS YEAR. I WAS SO AWED BY THE EXPERIENCE (22ND JUNE ) THAT I WROTE THIS POEM.
Ever so shyly she breathes light over the dark horizon,

wisps of ethereal tangerine swirls lazily dance on lemon.

A phantasmal mist hovers over shadowed corn fields,

stealing gold from early rays to melt her frosty heart.

Venturesome she brightens, spreading buttercup afar,

sending ripened peach hues to tempt and tease the eye.

Boastful in her radiance she governs the twixt time,

with the emergence of her now fierce poppy red glow.

We stand awed in exaltation , grounded in fascination,

shadows in the dewy field of an ancient circle of stones.

Humbled with breath held in anticipation of more,

awaiting the moment she crests in a blaze of gold.

A tiny duo of brazen silhouetted birds dare to streak by,

as she scales the horizon in a blinding orb of platinum.

With a swish of her skirts she spreads morning light

On a sea of bewitched faces and tall magical stones

junemac:  What a wonderfully beautiful description of sunrise at Stonehenge.  I have only seen it in pictures or videos, but even there, it exerts a certain spell!
I'm so glad you got to experience it first hand!

Love
