…write me There will be a time When I am nothing but a photograph, Or a small paragraph, in a closed book Within the library - of your mind… A less than significant part of your past, A mundane thought in your today And a selective memory - in your future. I will be a story expanded upon …becoming a legendary tale ……of little truth and many lies. You will add a little, then take away a little, In an attempt to balance All that was good and what was bad in me. You will re-arrange the chapters of my life, Until I am no longer - who I ever was. I will be a fully unfamiliar individual, One of your own creating On an empty page Within your imaginative mind. I will become nothing more Than a distorted image - a storybook character Standing in view of the ’Funhouse’ mirrors In the titled book The Carnival of Life. Past, present and future - however you perceive me Or write me…so I will be. But then, if the truth is to be acknowledged You never have really known me, For I only allowed you to see A very limited view of who I am. Even I have not been shown the whole me, I am as an unfinished novel Written by many unknown writers, And printed white on white with an inkless quill. I am nothing more than a stranger Even unto myself …an enigma in the reality of the day, The forgotten past and the unforeseen future. You will be the storyteller …write me. |
