The Storm

The Kookaburra’s laugh still lingered in the air
Hot and heavy felt the pressure in a baleful atmosphere

The dog lay on the porch …. Listless in the shade
The water like a mirror… right across the bay

Beneath the setting sun, the world now held its breath
Maybe the heat would go away when sun was laid to rest

But still the air grew thicker… to make it hard to breathe
The gum trees in the corner began to drop their leaves

The Storm God looked around him and said, “It’s time to play”
And so he brought his game down to us, that hot and sultry day

A slight shiver on the water .. a movement on the bay
The first clear indication that something was on the way

From the mountains in the distance beside the setting sun
The first grey chariots of cloud set into a run

Darkness dropped upon us as they blotted out the sun
Then Thunder in the distance … the Storm God had begun

A roiling twisting mass of cloud descended on the plain
Spreading quickly everywhere without a hint of rain

The gum trees in the corner just seemed to come alive
As the first quick gusts of wind started to arrive

The branches on these trees now begin to heave
As they realise too late …this is no summer breeze

The Bay no longer mirror but instead a churning mess
The Storm God in his element…. Master of this chess

His battalions marching onward“ Forward to the sea
Lightning Flash and Thunder Roar .. On with ecstasy”

The Darkness comes alive as the Lightning touches ground
With the Roaring of the Thunder you hear no other sound
The Lightning now from East to West Emblazoning the sky
Daggers of Light from left to right without a reason why

The Storm Gods getting angry now The Wind begins to howl
And you can hear within it the screaming of lost souls

The shutters on the windows are begging to be freed
The house itself just feels alive.. As if it too can breathe

The Storm has reached the sea and begins to dissipate
With lightning strikes much fewer now as if it’s all too late

Next the sounds of silenceThen the healing rain
And a whisper from the distance “I will be back again”
I LOVE Storms
Something so Energising about them

Live It

I wanted to book the trip !

longte:  This was a great description of the atmosphere before, during and after a major electric storm.  I have a friend who lives in Queensland and she has described some of the storms they have there. Pretty scary!
