The Silence

Nothing so loud as the silence,
Now that I'm living alone
Without the laughter and tumult;
After the last one has gone.

This house which echoed so loudly
With all of the sounds it contained,
Listens with me to the thrumming
Of the silence which has remained.

Children are loaned for a season
And mine were entrusted to me
To nurture and nudge to adulthood,
To be the best they could be.

But a loving mother's a mother
And it is so hard to retreat
To a quieter role in their new lives.
Lord help me this silence to meet.

Dear Joyce:  I wonder if I'll ever know that kind of silence?  I have had children I am responsible for since I was 12 years old and took over the care of my youngest sister.  Even marriage did not change that!
It sounds lonely for you.  Do you still have your dog?  They are not like having another person around, but they are company!

Hopefully you'll have a house full for Mother's Day!

Love

AhLady~
I remember the FIRST day ALL of my children were gone from the family home ... I thought I would shrivel up and blow away ... then, then ... I found that THEY encouraged ME to remember what I had told them ... "Love family like NO OTHER ... for they will always be just a heartbeat away."
And ... I learned to savor the 'silence' ... filling it with writing ... the very memories of each of them ... I found their laughter wafting my way ...~

Oh ... here I am ... getting sentimentally slobbery ... but, but ... Mom's are like that ... yeah, we are~

Loved your pennings dearest lady~
And LOL-ing ... at that FULL HOUSE you have for the holidays~

We are rich beyond compare with family ... may it always be~

Very nicely written and a topic well known to us mothers. Nothing forever is a sure thing at least one may be back, as Bill Cosby says Humans are the only animal species who let their childern come home again! Thanks for you support. Songbird
