For those of you who are new, in order to make any sense of this mess, you would have to read the previous 5 conversations in archive. Yes, I am a bit strange...
----------------------------------------------------

She raised her regal head as I approached and immediately, a strange expression appeared, a mixture I think of disgust, disappointment, and pain.

“You look like you just ate a lemon,” I said.

“This is how you greet me after so long? Where have you been? I was …“, she hesitated, searching for the right word to express her disapproval.

“You were what?”  I countered .

Regaining her composure, she stiffened her back, “I was otherwise engaged with my other novices. Too busy really to notice you were missing.” A wry smile formed at the corner of her mouth.

“Novice? You consider me a novice?” I faked a pained expression, turning to leave.

“No!! Wait!! You can’t leave until you show me what you have done.” I thought I saw panic in her eyes.

“Are you sure? I don’t want to take you away from your OTHER novices.”

“They can wait. You always needed more attention.” Again, that sly smile appeared.

I handed her the piece. She snatched it quickly, seeming to devour it, her eyes moving with lightning speed. After a while, she raised her eyes to mine. “There is too much pain here. I don’t accept it. Take it back.”

She thrust it into my hand.

“Pain is something humans feel. I don’t suppose you can understand that. After all, you aren’t human. In fact, you don’t really exist at all except in my own mind.”

“So, I don’t exist.” She walked slowly toward me, her gown of pale blue rustling softly in the still air. She stopped just inches from me, her blue eyes snapping, hands on hips.

“We…lll,” I stammered, not able to tear my eyes away.

“I guess you’re real enough. I’m not talking to myself or, am I?”

She smiled a secret smile and turned swiftly on her slim heel, walking away from me. “I guess I like the poem after all,” turning to look at me over her shoulder. “I’ll be seeing you soon.”

As she faded into mist I heard a last whisper in the fading light.

“Novice.”

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111: A charming conversation with your muse!  I remember the others you've posted very well. I hope she sticks around!
