So many things, wistfully, I see,
In minds eye now, so clear to me,

The knowing way you looked at me,
When somewhere else I had to be,

The way you proudly took my arm,

The way I loved to watch you dress,
Forgotten chores you did not press,
My breath you took with sultry looks,
The rainy days, the tea, the books,

Slow dancing till the hour was late,
The many kisses now I contemplate,
The warmth we shared each winter night,
The tender love that seemed so right,

These things I see, so clearly now,
As I stand here, silently, head bowed,
The earth is fresh, the stone is straight,
I’m sorry dear, for being  so late.
