wow!!  this is a tough audience!  ok, try this one

Little glowworm with tail so bright
How beautiful you make the night
Such dainty flashes tease the sight
Quite welcome is your silent flight

You make the darkness gently warm
And quell the thought of summer storm
The sultry night you do reform
To endless swirls  my eyes conform

You know that soon this dance must end
That sunrise will your mating rend
So fly my little lightning friend
Because your glow this day will end

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111:  A charming poem!  I enjoyed reading it, especially since I have never seen a glowworm!  I have always lived in northern climes!

actually, I took a little poetic license here. The glowworm is a wingless insect, usually the larvae of the firefly, which gives off a phosphorescent light. Well.....they become fireflys EVENTUALLY...lol

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Such a litte creature to be the object of a lovely poem. You do it justice, I say.

What a great read...with summer approaching, this takes me back to the days when I was younger and chasing the fireflies around my neighbor's yard so he could make me a glowing "ring" for my finger.  Fireflies are a fascinating bug - a high"light" of summertime!

i too, really enjoyed this...though i could say it takes me back, but not back too far, since i'm still considered a youngster.  after reading that poem, i do feel a little bad for the fireflies, since i delayed their mating cycle by catching them...haha; oh well, poems are meant to uplift our memories

Pegasus,

What a great poem! I've only seen glow worms when I lived in Wisconsin as a child. Have not seen any since.

Thank you for sharing!
