The Mountain

The mountain dominates the land.
A lofty presence, cold and grand,
With gleaming ice walls, waterfalls,
Rushing rivers and canyon walls.
Her timbered foothills make a home
For varied wildlife that can roam
Through alpine meadows, woods and streams,
Where life seems good for them, it seems.
The trails that lead you upward to
The jagged ridges, hold a view
That keeps you captive, when you see
Surrounding mountains majesty!

The peaks so high, a giant wall
And yet this mountain tops them all.
If you are brave enough to go
Much higher, where the glaciers grow,
The winds are fierce and clouds appear
Created by high atmosphere,
To cap the summit, like a shroud.
Still, it rises, large and proud
And even when we've gone away,
The images are there to stay,
Of rocky ledges, fields of snow
And timbered slopes that lie below!

I feel that life will never be
Quite the same again, for me,
Now that I've stood upon the sod
That grew this mountain up to God!

A solemn thought and great imagery.

Dear Joyce:

This is Mt. Rainier of course! We spent the Saturday before coming home, up there, wandering around.  Awesome!

Thanks for reading and enjoyed your comments.  It was a beautiful day when we were there, with a lenticular cloud over the summit and so awe inspiring!

Dear Marge:

Thanks so much for your comments. It was a wonderful experience to spend time on Mt. Rainier.  We went to the 5,400 ft. level in the car and then hiked a brief way up the trail to get above the tree line. The weather was great and 31 degrees!
