Winter At My Window

When autumn winds bring coolish air
And colored leaves fly everywhere,
There is a loneliness, I find,
To watch the season fall behind
Relentless passage of the days
That bring swift changes, as I gaze!
My window and the yard beyond,
Reveal no birds upon the pond.
The crickets now, have ceased to sing.
Most any day, the cold will bring
The first snow of the winter season,
Giving me an urgent reason
To don my boots and coat and hat
And walk into the forest that
Holds the secrets of the day.
I watch the shadows as they play
Deeper down the narrow trails,
Until the daylight slowly fails
And as I turn towards home, I see,
The last leaves fall from every tree
And in the morning, winter will
Be sitting on my windowsill!

Thanks for sharing a pretty sight, via verse. We hardly ever see snow, here. I hope you stay safe and warm.

Melton:

I don't suppose you do see snow where you are. We always see too much of it! I used to ski but no longer do, so snow is not as thrilling as it once was!

Exceedingly Lovely. I love how you see the ushering in of winter. As reading, I felt very united with nature and the surroundings that you so very well described in your poem. -Bob

Well that helped!  I live on a mountain and the snow won't stick here right now it's too warm, and that is horrible for those that LOVE the snow.  Thanks for taking me to your winter scene, as usual your writing is just the purest.

passing shadows:  Thanks for your comments. I suppose it feels lonely because there isn't as much traffic and sounds are muted. At least in the country!

Mysteria:  Thanks for your lovely compliment!  I hate to tell you this, but we no longer look like winter either.  All the snow has melted and we are getting rain and fog.  The temps. are in the mid-30's or higher!  They aren't even promising any snow for Christmas.  Weird weather!
We'll enjoy Christmas anyhow and hope you and yours do also!

Dear Betty Lou

A wonderful poem about winter.  It is hard for me to imagine 'cold' and 'snow' when we are sweltering here 'Down Under'.

Looking forward to that snowman.......

Dear Isobel:  We haven't forgotten about that snowman but so far, have not had enough snow to do one.  I'm sure that will change very soon!
