Jordan's Pond

Acadia, ancestral lands,
Whose beauty even now commands,
That I return in thought, to see,
The places that are haunting me,
Accompanied by cry of loon.
Who can forget that feral tune?
Canoe sets out to float and drift,
Where light and shadow, quickly shift.

Along the shore, the maples grow,
That early in the autumn show
Their vivid colors, orange and red,
As though the sap within has bled
Into each leaf in one last fling
Before the winter cold can bring
Deep banks of snow, that cover all
The woods and holds the lake in thrall!

But summer's on my mind today.
It's then we used to go and stay.
The magic of those times remains
And wraps my heart with fragrant chains.
The smell of spruce and pine and more.
The scent of sea, along the shore.
This aromatic potpourri,
Speaks of Jordan's Pond to me!

Nancy:

Thanks for reading and I wish I could see Jordan's Pond too!  I read an article about it and then wrote this poem. I'm sure it is even more beautiful than I described!
