Things As They Are Did I not notice yesterday The flowers start to fade away? The yellow leaves upon the lawn. The bobbing ouzels now are gone. Did I not see the shrinking pond, Or how the foliage beyond Has thinned to let in much more light, Or did it happen overnight? Did I not sense the change of air. The signs of autumn everywhere? Were my thoughts someplace so far I couldn't see things as they are? Now suddenly, I look around And see the changes, so profound. I am surprised and wonder why I didn't feel the summer die! Very nice Betty. The changes do happen very fast sometimes. My oak is glorious one day and bare the next. Last year we had a sudden freeze and the next day the ginko leaves were falling just like rain and gone the next. It's nice that every season has its beauty so we don't feel so forlorn. Love, Joyce |
