Freedom

I live here
Within the hallowed walls
Of Freedom.
Where other people
Who don’t know of me
Or of mine,
Put themselves on the line
That I might live
Within the hallowed walls
Of Freedom.

They pay the dues
For all of us
That we might live
Here on this earth.
There is rent to be paid
And they unselfishly..
Pay it, duty bound
And honorably…
Regardless of whether
We are appreciative or not.

I fear I have
Little or no regard
What so-ever,
For the couch potato politicians
Who huddle around television,
Radio and read avidly
The paper media.
Believing they know all,
See all,
Hear all
And they and they alone
Have the solutions
That would bring about
World Peace.

I have even less regard
If possible…for those who gather
In thousands spewing words
Of disgust and hatred about
The way things are run
By those same people
They elected into office.
We don't have to agree
But we should be supportive.

I have no tolerance at all
For the frenzied protesters
Who divide a country
Where a united front
Should be the goal.
The demonstrators
In this country
Immigrants all…
At some time or other.

I want to say,
If I had the money,
Or the way,
I would put them on a plane
And send them all…
Back from whence they came.
They traveled in droves
To escape to freedom,
A freedom they wanted…
and maybe a freedom
They might never of had
...otherwise.

They now have the advantage
Of living within the hallowed
Walls of Freedom,
They come here,
To Freedom willingly, longingly
Where they are free to verbalize,
To live by their choosing,
Then turn around in discontent
And  spit on the graves
Of those who gave their lives
That we/they  might live…freely.
They are unappreciative fools,
Their ignorance shows.

I have two adult sons
And I am thankful,
That they are too old
To have been called for
Duty - to their country.
I also know I have two sons
Who would not have gone
To war…ever.
That I would visit them
probably in jail
Or some country of neutrality.
But I raised them
In this Land of Freedom,
To think for themselves
Accordingly…that is their right.

As a mother I straddle a fence
Of thankfulness and guilt,
Thankfulness that my children
Are safe…guilt because
Another mother’s child is
Sacrificing their life for me
And for mine.

My opinions are mine...
Mine alone,
But I can state them
Without fear of reprimand
Or death…for
I was fortunate enough
To have been born
and to live
Within the hallowed walls
Of Freedom.
Where other people
Who don’t know of me
Or of mine,
Put themselves on the line
That I might live
Within the hallowed walls
Of Freedom.
