Could Be Anywhere...

crossroads, again

waiting in desolation, isolation
four corners laid out before
roads stretch to the horizon.
Three directions turned
are stepping onto future
one leads back to the past.

Hat in hand, sweat on brow
old, faded bandana soaking
considering the paths before.
Sudden wind, dust whirling
cliche tumbleweed rolls by
hunger hidden, deep within.

Where to go balancing, weighed
against, perhaps with, places been
future decorated with variables.
The mind calculating, processing
sun beats down, thirst escalates
seeking at another crossroad.

Sitting down to rest awhile
questions and answers unasked
unprayed, unknown, homeless.
Admiring beauty that could be
hoping for peace once promised
waiting in desolation, isolation.

future decorated with variables

What an amazing line !
This poem as often yours are, is poignant and peppered with intelligent thoughts, sadness and fear. Also it has a quality rarely seen. Are you published ? I think you should be. I love to read your work and I know many others would too. Your life and experiences hold so much passion and tenderness, so much desperation and fear and a whole wealth of living. I know from your words that you have had the most difficult times and can never hope to understand how this feels, but to read your poetry gives the reader a good start.

sorry lol I waffle sometimes.
Just stunned by this wonderful poem

The most poignant line of all to me.  You've done a wonderful job of describing life's crossroads.  Thank you.

Sorry,  I thought things had turned around for you.  It is good poetry however.  Joyce
