Little Child Lost

Little child lost, where had the innocence gone,
Why daddy, did you take my dreams away,
leaving behind this empty shell of darkness?

Haunting memories of dark shadows gathered,
blocking star-filled skies.
Rain falling, like tears drenching pillow,
Could no one see this child's agony?

Where were you God, for so many years?
When all I wished for was a measure of hope.
Only claws that tugged,
Ripping out a heart so young and fragile.
Leaving behind a sea of tears.

Then, from some unknown source,
A light so bright began to lift this tortured soul.
Little by little it grew and shimmered
Chasing away the gloom of old.

A spark, then a fire luminous and glowing
Healing the heart and soul within.
I do not hate, nor do I fear,
But never will I call you "daddy dear."

For from the darkness came a light,
That chased the demons out of sight.

Dear Joyce and Marge,

Thank you both for your kind words, and for the encouragement you have given me. Abuse is a subject which tears at my heart. For some who have gone this agony, they grow up to learn about love and compassion and are able to relate and help others who have gone through similar circumstances. Others are left with scars that haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Love,
Patricia

Dear Destinys_Fallen_Angel,

My heart weeps for what was done to you, as it weeps for all those who have gone through the same situation. What a wonderful feeling to be free now! Thank you so much for your response.

Much love,
Patricia

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your wonderful response. Each one of us who has been in similar situations should rejoice in the fact that we are no longer held in chains, but free to experience the beauty all around us.

Love,
Patricia

Hi Pat,
I just read your poem again...I'm so affected by it.  I felt the need to share a little of my own experience with abuse.  I wasn't sexually abused by a family member, but was raped by some teenage boys when I was 6.  I can remember every single detail of it like it's a movie playing in my mind.  I never told a soul about it until I was well into my 30's.  I always thought it was my fault.  Other things happened in my life in later years that made it almost seem small in comparison.
Keep writing, it's soothing to the soul I think.
Love, Dee

Dearest Dee,

Oh how my heart breaks for what happened to you. I'll never understand why others feel the need to harm an innocent child. You and I, and others have to live with those haunting memories for the rest of our lives. Many of us survivors have gone on with our lives to experience happy and joyful times, but sometimes those horrible memories may creep up on us when we least expect it. To be able to share with others is a lealing process. At this moment, I am reaching out to embrace you and to let you know that I love you dear Dee.
