Mother's Day

Dear Mama we used to bring to you,
Flowers or a gift or two.
Perhaps we'd take you out to dine,
You didn't care, each gift was fine.

You were not ever hard to please,
You wanted all to be at ease.
You judged no gift against the other.
We all claimed you as perfect mother.

Now that you're not here any more,
We see what we'd not seen before.
The finest gift to have ever been,
Would have been to be together again.

How many years did we let go by,
With your fondest wish did not comply?
'Til the day we came from everywhere;
A bit too late, you weren't there.

We're sorry Mama, we didn't try
To not let so much time go by
Between those days of love and joy,
All gathered around, each girl and boy.

We loved you Mother and held you dear,
But distance and cash would interfere.
If we could we each would find the way
To be with you, this Mother's Day.

What a wonderful and touching tribute to mothers everywhere! It is so true that we always wish we would have done more after it is too late. I'm going to call my mother right now!

Dear Joyce,

Tears held in for so long are now trickling down my face. I wish my own mother were here so I could tell her how much I love and miss her. She passed away when I was only 16.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on the Poetry Forum. May your day be blessed!

Love,
Patricia

Dear Joyce

A very 'moving' poem.  Just like PatAngel my mother died when I was 16 years old too.  She would have been 87 years old today the 10th May.

We all tend to get caught up with one thing or another and it is only when someone passes over that we realize that we should have kept in touch more often.
