Wartime Mother

She did not raise her child for war,
This precious gift from God above.
She tried to show him how to live
With loose held reins of mother love.

Faith and loyalty and trust
In God, country and fellow man,
Were things she wanted him to know.
She tried hard as a mother can.

This sturdy lad grew proud and strong,
Becoming all she could desire.
He answered to his country's call,
The one she'd taught him to admire.

And now she lives in fear and dread,
Worry near too much to bear.
On bended knee releases him
To God and beloved country's care.

Dear Joyce:  Very perceptive poem and I wonder how many mothers are in this very situation?

Joyce~
So very touching ... and there are so many mothers out here who must keep the prayerful vigil for their offspring gone off to fight this war~

Tenderly done, dear friend~

Dear Joyce

A mother always sacrifices herself for her children.  This is the one time where she feels 'helpless' as her child sacrifices himself for his country.

A very heartfelt poem.

This poem made me think of some friends who were faced with this. Thank you for bringing them to mind so that I may be more compassionate.

I think that this was very nicely done.  To many times we jump straight in with what sacrifices our soldiers are making for us, and forget to add that their families are making sacrifices too.

It is beautiful.

It's all crazy. You express very well the heart of many mothers.

Yes and I wrote this before all this awful stuff was made known about the prisoners.  And someone other than the lowly soldier is accountable for it.  Love, Joyce
