Ask not heart for such treachery we grieve,
for it was such a dark night as this to love,
that love did approach thee and did deceive;
for your eyes were searching for love above.

In the distance I did see her fast approach,
as she was dunned in her darkest attire,
and such a stranger to this encroach,
but thou were in search for too fair a desire.

For as our lives to each other did pass,
and our eyes casually did exchange a glance,
I knew it were love that approached at last,
but it were too late for a loving romance.

It is such a dreadful mistake as this,
that love had finally, to us pass by;
that time would have my lips left unkissed,
and your plee failing to merit a reply.

But worry not my unrequited heart,
for upon the night she shall come again,
and next time we shall not let her depart,
leaving 'neath our breast this dreadful sin!

Pain?  I expect that is the last word of your poem.  Very nice.  Joyce
