Soul Surge

Beside the sea, the hills are gold
With gorse that blooms each spring
And in the waves that crash below,
I hear the Valkyries sing
Their endless and alluring songs,
That make you want to go
Where you can watch the ageless tides
Relentless, ebb and flow.

Then standing on a gleaming rock,
That's wet with salty spray,
I wonder at the majesty
That stretches miles away.
The awe I feel is multiplied
By sight and sense and sound.
I'm lost in oneness with the sea.
It's really quite profound!

Dear Betty Lou

It is wonderful to be back in 'Passions'.  What a beautiful poem.  My 'Soul Surged' when I read it.

What are Valkyries?

Love Isobel

Isobel:  Really nice to see you back!  We've missed you.  The Valkyries were handmaidens of the god Odin, in Norse mythology.  When I wrote this, I was listening to Richard Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" and it seemed that I could hear waves crashing in the background, so it lent itself well to this poem. I should have thought to provide a link.  Sorry.

Dear Marge:  It was remiss of me not to provide a link for gorse.  It grows so prfusely along the Oregon coast and I never stopped to think, not everyone has seen it.

Same thing with the Valkyries.  When the seas are stormy, I used to think of them and Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" and it just blended in so well with what I was thinking about when I wrote this. Thanks for the links!
