The Candy Case

The taste of chocolate on my tongue,
Reminds me of when I was young
And grandpa used to take me to
The village store, so I could view
The wonderful assortment there
Of merchandise and clothes to wear.
The candy case just made me pine
For chocolate sweets, that were all mine.

Now grandpa carried, everywhere,
A dark brown bar, he'd often share
With other men, but never me!
There was no reason I could see
I shouldn't have a little bite.
Such selfishness did not seem right!
Although I asked him and said "please",
He only laughed and slapped his knees!

Then one day, I had a surprise.
He handed me, with twinkling eyes,
His chocolate bar, oh, lucky me!
I'd no idea it would be
So strong and hot and bitter too.
It wasn't candy, it was "chew"!

I liked this a lot.  My daddy used to chew Sparkplug until he changed over to Beechnut.  He never offered me a bite but I remember taking a nibble one time.  Didn't do it again.  Love, Joyce

Isobel:  Glad this brought you a laugh!  I was really angry with my grandpa for awhile after that incident!  He was a terrible tease.

Dear Marge:  I must confess I am a chocoholic all the way through!  Has to be sugar-free now, but I still eat it once in awhile, when the craving gets to me. Thanks!

Noah:  Thanks for commenting.  It is really a funny incident and my grandgfather loved to tease, but it was also a big shock.  I was all set for a bite of chocolate!
