When I Grow Old

I used to think, when I grew old,
I'd find each day was tinged with gold.
My family raised, work years done,
I'd concentrate on having fun!

Here recently, I realized
Old age had entrred, well disguised.
If years are any indication,
I am the senior generation!

My jobs aren't finished and I fear
They won't be soon, so year by year,
I'll try to find the time to do
Some things that I've looked forward to,
But in the meantime, I give thanks,
I'm still among the active ranks!

we do tend to notice a few inconveniences as the years press on, but health is most important as you say

Very nice poem Trillium.  That is what makes life worthwhile.  Being active.  Life has purpose and when that is taken away from you then your will to live diminishes.  I pray you have many more active years ahead of you.

Isobel.

junemac:  I think being "old" is often a state of mind.  If you are in ill health, I'm sure it is really difficult to have a "young" outlook, but I have known people who started acting aged at 50! Thanks for your comments.

Yep! You sure are in the active ranks. I haven't come across many like you. I see young ones walking around not having anything to do. I can't keep up with you. You are such a wonderful inspiration.
By the way-great poem.

I think you have it right..."when" you grow old. I like to think of it as a choice to stay young in my mind. See things as fresh and new each day! Doesn't alway work, but keeps me going.
Enjoyed your poem.

(smiles) Awwwwwwwww, I understand the anxiety as though I'm still in an adolescent stage I do always want to hold the spirit of the boy in me and avoid being swallowed by the cynicism and logic of the world and live my dreams on, as I believe that's what keeps us young! (big angel hugs) Always embrace the world with a smile, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Betty, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah:  I decided some time ago, numbers have nothing to do with "age".  I don't intend to ever grow "old"!  Thanks for your nice comments.
