That little worm inside your being Always present, ever-seeing Comes alive with each new feeling Starts you crying, leaves you reeling It takes the essence of experience Drinks it deep, becomes delirious Doesn’t matter what emotion: Fear, hatred, happiness, devotion Each of these, a part of life: Worry, love, doting, strife You have to feel to be a poet Even though you never show it Every writer hides within A secret most emotional sin What most ignore we notice vividly: Pain, stature, beauty, honesty It takes the heart and soul and mind For every writer’s pen to find A medium on which to express Joy, sadness, loneliness Inside us all lies ability But a true writer’s virility Is in the emotion’s abysmal soul To make literature completely whole |
