The Skating Rink

The sweetest gift I ever had,
Was given to me by my dad!
A skating rink, in our back yard.
I watched him labor, very hard,
To build the forms to hold the ice
And layer it, so smooth and nice.

I used it on that Christmas morn.
The first time I had ever worn
The beautiful, white skates that he
Had picked out specially for me.
He let me skate all day until,
I had finally had my fill!

I practiced all my turns and spins.
He watched me with the biggest grins
And, oh, what dreams I harbored then,
When I was but the age of ten!
I never made it my career,
But think of it with Christmas here
And in my mind's eye, I can see,
That skating rink, my dad and me!

Honestly, Betty Lou (I can call you that can't I?)
This gave me bristles down my neck. It is so close to many childrens' hearts. No matter how young or old you are, you'll always be somebody's child. This is so loving and magical!

Oh my did this bring back memories.
Our dad...Nightshade/Chris, and my dad..
he used to make us one each year in the back yard. It was a sheet of blue plastic stretched across the packed down snow and then the hose turned on the plastic under about 3 inches deep and then let freeze....wow...that was so long ago, yet seems like yesterday.

Thank you for this...Have a wonderful new year.

Hugs, Nancy
