Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2003-11-25 08:00 PM

There was a time when I kept ink with me,
and quills, in a small leather pouch.
I would walk along
the shorelines of never, watching as
a sunset stained itself with miracles.
At times, when the tides were too low,
or the ocean too deep, I wrote sonnets
for a man I hardly knew, my skin absorbing words,
more like enigmas than anything.
Of course, there is no expanse of understanding
for why I did this. One does not question
the artist, and what reasons compel them to mix
black and white, somehow creating the phenomenon of blue.
No, I preferred unpainted dreams,
crudely cast, in an adulterated world.
These are indelicate to the touch, and blush
at twilight in shame, for there is but little beauty
lurking within cruelty. You must have the eyes of an artist
to see what I have seen.
Sometimes, when night lasted on my fingers,
I could taste destiny in the beads of smoke,
falling and lost to the bend of an arm.
Precision exists somewhere, I could feel it, all wrapped
'tween the incense Elysium yields:
a dream world.
Once, a very long time ago, before I knew even to forge ink
from the blackness tears were made from,
there was day, and there was the hour of a white silver sun.
I worshipped argentine. She made me immortally sound by
her law of unquenchable gravity.
An addiction so incurable was mine, that evening fabricated
its preciously strewn and demurely unspeakable lie,
around a notion of false forgiveness.
From my obsession it took its lust of morning, and asked me,
beautiful, isn't it, the way you break?
And there was a time when I kept ink with me,
and quills, in a small leather pouch...
it was then that I found the answer to the question I never sought.

If I were to touch you, would you bleed a velvet river, running miracles through the sodden ground? --Moi

I love this particularly...Sparticus is right...very nice imagery and woven in a very interesting pattern.

Thank you.

Now that's poetry!
You surely have the gift.

But then, all indigos do.

Thanks,

Very poignant. I take paper and pen with me when I go to bed, it is always in the night when, just as I awake I get poetic thoughts. Lovely read. Maggie
