(AN: This one goes out to a very special lady. Though she is seeing someone else, she will forever hold a special place in my heart. Be sure to read my other work, To My Lili Marlene if you don't understand this. FYI her name isn't Lili or Marlene.) Underneath the Lantern Underneath the lantern, in a campus cafe. Dining alone at a table one evening Friday. I saw you walk in, going to meet someone. She didn't show, so at my table you sat for fun. We talked of many things, good friends we are. The pain of months for me went away far. Laughing, smiling, light hearted. Underneath the lantern light before you departed. That's something I hadn't enjoyed for a week. Company with one whom is so special and unique. Though you talked of your boyfriend again. For some reason I felt no pain. I said nothing of my feelings for you. Even though seeing you together makes me blue. You'll always be my Lili Marlene. Despite all of the angst and pain. For just over an hour, beneath the lantern light. A precious moment of incalculable delight. For the entire weekend I walked upon air. I was happy for a while, without a single care. But if your heart belongs to him, go on, I plea. Don't mind the suffering fellow that is me. I love you enough for you to experience great joy. Even if it isn't from me, this isn't a ploy. It may hurt me inside to see you with him. It may make me become pained and grim. But if the price of your happiness be my pain. I'll pay it thrice again and again. Love is denied me yet again, why I don't know. But like rejections before it's a physical blow. |
