The First Step The grandest epic starts with But one word at a time. You must tread on that first step If stairway you would climb. Foremost notes don't make a song But surely must be played Before a firm foundation For the musical is laid. Don't leap to a conclusion Without initial clue. You must have a beginning For an ending to ensue. There never was a scholar Without the one who taught. And there must be a problem For answer to be sought. In life there are no shortcuts To reach the final goal. To travel that big highway You first must pay the toll. No master of his craft will claim The learning part he leapt. So true, and I like the rhyming all the way through just flowed off my tongue when I read it to my hubby. Nice, like a note of reminder to look ahead before you leap, too, as well as the thought nothing begins without that first step.
