Singers of the Sea

Within my boat, far out at sea,
The dolphins sometimes come to me.
They sing me songs, in high-pitched tones,
That resonate through all my bones!
They often jump into the air
And fix me with a curious stare.
They're trying to communicate.
My understanding isn't great,
But yet I know their message sends
A deep desire to be friends!

A phosphorescent haze begins
To pour in streamers from their fins,
Bewitching me to linger more,
Instead of sailing back to shore.
I'm lulled by song, plus swells that rise
And lift my vessel to the skies.
There, in the dimly lighted night,
They are a strange and haunting sight!
I sit entranced, beneath the spell,
That singing dolphins cast, so well!

I love it. Dolphins have always had some sort of magical appeal to me, since I grew up on a seaside town. Every time I'd go hang out on the docks as a boy I'd see them swimming through the waterways in groups or even by themselves. You brought memories of those days back, thank you.

OhBettyLou~
This is lyrically magic~

I adore the dolphins ... and a few years ago, down off the Florida Keys, I was deep-sea fishing with friends ... suddenly a large group of dolphins came to our boat.
They circled, swam ahead of us, suddenly diving under the boat and coming out on the other side.
I got sooooo tickled.  I said, "Well, maybe we should clap ... like they do at Sea World."

I started clapping ... and I swear this is the god-honest truth ... those dolphin began doing great jumps into the air ... flipping, diving and coming back up to do it again.

AND ... that joyous sound they make is like their way of laughing to me~

I wanted to get into the ocean and swim with them, but my friends wouldn't let me.
BUT ... three years ago ... I went back to the Keys and DID GET TO SWIM WITH THE DOLPHINS !

Gosh .... I loved this poem soooooo much~
Oooops ... my reply is longer than your poem~
Love you lady~

HI RON~

Dear Marge:  Thank you for sharing your dolphin experiences with me!  I can't imagine how thrilling it would be to actually swim with them!  What wonderful memories you have and I could see and hear them, just reading your description.

Ron sends his love!

There is nothing like the site of dolphins or whales at play.  Living on the west coast I see the whales but have to go further south to California to experience the wonderful dolphins.  Good thing I didn't have to go that far to experience your fabulous poem.  You absolutely always delight the reader to no end.  My granddaughter will absolutely love this one, so it is a real keeper Betty Lou, thank you.

Mysteria:  What a wonderful picture!  I should have had that when I posted the poem!
I'm so glad you liked it.  We used to live in Seattle and had a sailboat we practically lived on, so saw lots of different whales.  Mostly the killer whales which I thought were so beautiful. Never did see any dolphins and this poem was actually the result of a dream I had!!

(smiles) Yay! Awwwwwwwww, I love dolphins sooooooo much! One time I was so fortunate to go down to Cancun and get to actually swim with the dolphins! There I was, underwater, softly gliding on the dolphins velveteen back, deep in the warm waters, and leaping out of the water just felt more special than any amusement park ride! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, always smile like a dolphin, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Betty, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Noah:  I have always wanted to be somewhere that I could swim with the dolphins.  Unfortunately, I seem to be stuck in the NW corner of the States!  Have never been to the southern climes.  Maybe someday!  So glad you got to actually experience swimming with them.  Must have been wonderful!
