Mountain King

Upon a barren ridge, alone,
A noble fir, that forms a cone,
Stands high above the woods below,
Now dusted with new-fallen snow.
The winds that blow around it, keen
And keep it looking fresh and green.
It towers over all the land.
A living thing, completely grand!

They sometimes live a thousand years.
A person climbing to it hears
A rustle and a whispering.
It has a special song to sing,
Which tells of seasons it has grown
And the parade of life it's known.
It makes a most impressive sight
And even on the darkest night,
I sense it watching everything,
As befits a mountain king!

This is really nice, Betty.  Before I read it, I was trying to guess what the Mountain King was.  I didnn't guess a tree, was thinking of an animal.  Love, Joyce

Joyce:  Fooled you on this one!!  The tree is spectacular as it stands all alone and high above all the surrounding woods. It's also very tall.......guessing about 200 ft.

Nancy:  Thanks!  Your remarks really warm my heart.  I hope people don't get tired of reading my nature poetry because it is such a part of me!  I just never tire of the natural world and the inspiration it gives to me.

Betty, you should come over to Open...not many people come over here to the Pub and you are so talented...it's a shame you don't share with more folks.
