Glimpse From the Heart

(AN: The full story is revealed in my poem To My Lili Marlene. The muse is the same woman I've cared for since December.)

Today I felt light as a feather.
But you today were under the weather.
From the cough drops it was the common cold.
On my heart you have quite a hold.

After class I got online and sent a simple message.
It may not unclog the nasal passage.
But if it serves to make you smile.
I will be able to run me many a mile.

You bring out the very best in me.
I hope that at least you can see.
Though you are involved with someone different.
Though my soul feels ragged and rent.

You are allowed a glimpse into my heart.
For you did the gates around it part.
By my nature I am mysterious and guarded.
I hope you do not think me retarded.

Throughout my teenage years.
I endured numerous rejection by my peers.
It made me build barrier and trench.
Round my heart, to save me from agony's wrench.

December you dismantled the last concertina belt.
December my last machine gunner fired off his belt.
My heart was no longer afraid to love.
You, the sweet, peaceful dove.

Sadly I was forced back into the pillbox.
This painful September, to close all the locks.
Your heart belonged to another.
The pain I never revealed to none, not even mother.

I never told you what I truly feel.
I fear you'd recoil in repugnance, cold as steel.
It would simply be a fruitless act.
Many friends left me, without much tact.

I must frighten those I've loved with whats inside.
Even though you may not be at my side.
I don't want to lose the friendship I had with you.
That would be agonizing, through and through.

It would not be right for me to interfere.
Your happiness, though mine is pierced with spear.
For you I'm willing to endure the hurt and pain.
"Suck it up soldier, you ain't been slain."

My old recruiting sergeant would say.
Sometimes things are in shades of gray.
My Lili of the lamplight. You have my heart.
Though the last week the anguish ripped me apart.

For you I will wait.
However if it is not my fate.
To share my heart fully with you.
I say 'au revoir' and happiness through and through.

aw, for goodness sake's.... tell her how you feel!
This was a great poem, even though it is sad in parts, a few lines made me giggle (unclogging the nasal passage??!)
Well written,
Connie.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Carl, this just broke my heart to hear of your most deepest honesty and tears, sweet friend, I certainly hope you have expressed your emotions to Lil Marlene, for it is her who should decide and the best you can do is let her know your option! (wipes tears) Keep the faith, my friend, know you deserve the greatest love and happiness always and follow your heart, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Carl, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
