In the shadow of an archway
Stands a single blood red rose
Startling in her beauty
Where amid the weeds she grows
Her deep crimson petals
Are cupping her velvet heart
Protecting her delicate centre
Like a priceless work of art
Her head is held majestically
Above thorns of deadly warning
Awaiting the freshest tear of dew
At the break of summer morning
Lonely is this beauty
Untouched by warming sun
Holding back her charms
Hidden from everyone
Until her gentle prince happens to stop by
And tenderly picks her from the dark
To love until they die.

Very vivid poem. Serene. Beautiful.
Thank you for sharing, I love this piece, and it's going in my library.

junemac:  This is lovely and I enjoyed reading it.  Reminds me of our climbing rose, called Crimson Blaze, as there is only one perfect, dark red rose left on it.
Perhaps a prince will come for it too!

I’m sure that special someone was lured by the heavenly scent of this maiden beauty. And gently pulled her into his arms, riding toward the first blush of day. Where their budding love blossomed, and forever bloomed...

Simply radiant June!
