Friday Night Down the Legion

Now can't you hear the call, come one and all
Be you big or small, even if you got to crawl
There's a knock-down brawl behind the Legion hall
Come one and all

Seems something was said, about Gideon's shed
Made old Gideon see red, and he lost his head
He busted Carney's head for what he said
About Gideon's shed

A lovely bit of heel and toe, don't be slow
or its to your knees you'll go, don't you know
Can't tell friend from foe, kick em in the crows
Don't be slow

We're drawing a crowd, getting real loud
down goes McLeod, as to his girl he bowed
he was just too proud, and he got plowed
Its' getting real loud

Insults then fists flew, a right hullabaloo
Eyes turned black and blue, teeth knocked askew
When its done what's to do, but to laugh and share a brew
a right hullabaloo

Nothin's better than a fight on a Friday night
And its a true delight, though we look a sight
Give just an imagined slight, and it'll reignite
On a Friday night

Your signature surely exemplifies this poem, Maddy - This is about real life - That's what it's all about.  I'll look forward to reading more of your work.

I had a real good laugh at this...So true so true Life on a Friday night--
sometimes Saturday all sitting around the counter sharing a cup of mud (or the hair of what bit us--perhaps screech) and laughing of the night before

hehehe, Is there popcorn available? hahaha.. I don't really believe in fighting, but you made it sound entertaining like a boxing match. I could see the whole thing happening. I think people should just try to talk it out, but there are times it just doesn't work out that way and it's like a boxing match. Anyways fun write.. Fun one!!!

p.s. i see you are from Nova Scotia...Lucky you. I have always wanted to go there and see the lighthouses. Lovely place it must be.

Of sound, and speech let all lift the hearer!

Oh my gosh Maddy I roared when I read this and ran downstairs to get my hubby to read it. We both grew up in small town New Hampshire the this type of Friday night was a commonplace. Only excitment for miles around!

Beer and whiskey flowing and fists flying!!!

Thank you for a trip down memory lane!

Huggles, Marti

(big hugggsssssss) I too don't believe in fighting but this is realistic everywhere on many Friday nights with friends and strangers in parties and you captivate the atmosphere so well, this is an excellent debut, I love it! Welcome to Passions, sweet Maddy, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your excellent poetry, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Maddy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Hi Maddy, it’s nice to meet you.

This reminds me of the time there was this riot, and a hockey game broke out!
Wooo Hooo!
No wonder them guys are all missing their teef.
Sounds like one heck of a donnybrook.
Sorry I missed it... lol
The only thing I did last Friday, was sit around in my shorts, and watch a fly die on my chin...(!)

This was so fun!

Looking forward to reading more of your writing,

Richy
