soil has become air
black dust
evil driven
sifting into souls

a lantern sun
hovers wastelands
of smothered days
and needless nights

dare not listen to the wind
for it will roar in your ears
and consume you
like a prairie fire

close your thoughts
to the agony of the earth
and open your hearts
to the anguish of her children
abiding
the waters of heaven

coyote:  What a hard time that was in our nation's history and you have certainly captured the atmosphere of those days.

Thanks, Betty Lou. I appreciate your reading.
The Dust Bowl Period '31-'39 interests me greatly.

Thanks, to you too, Maree.

I was pleased to find your poem this morning.  That was a terrible time and the young folks of today have no idea how catastrophic it was.  It started the memory juices flowing.  Love, Joyce

Thanks so much for reading, Joyce.
It was a tough 8 1/2 years indeed, which began in mid 1931 and produced 14 "black blizzards" the following year '32, and 38 the next.

(big hugggsssssss) It truly is saddening to see our ecosystems changing so fast, sweet friend, but even more so to see the less fortunate starving and thirsty and I only pray everyone can help contribute to them real soon with love! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is a most heartfelt write, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
