There he stood so proud and tall,
His hands to his mouth, he chanted his call.
He tries to have an uplifting mood,
But the white man came and took his food.
They murdered the buffalo and took the skins,
Now the Native American must live with these sins.
Now he's forced to dwell on a reservation,
And the white man claims he cares for preservation.
Now his ancestors must fight for their rights,
For they live in a world of electric lights.
And even though some would say they long ago died,
The songs are within them, deep inside.

THANK-YOU

Amanda~
Being of Cherokee descent, I greatly enjoyed your tender treatment of the Native American Indians in this penning~

So much knowledge in the stories of the past~
Thank you for sharing a part of it~

Great words, Tequilia...
When i meet Native Americans and talk to them i see their knowledge and traditions are still alive, and it fills my heart with joy.

...somos los locos para siempre
para siempre te amo

Tequilia_Sunrise;  I really like this poem!
We can learn so much from Native American people, if we take the time to do it.

The Europeans who came and took the land of the Native Americans were wrong indeed and their descendants will never be able to right that wrong.  But I hope we can learn and do our best to be friends.  Love, Joyce
