The music ended so suddenly
bodies froze in mid step
deep melacholy settled slowly
like brown molasses dripping
down the side of an open jar

How could it end this way
something deep down inside
shouted no, screamed in pain,
is this the end, all there is,
this cannot be, it’s a mistake

Too much effort has been made
too much time spent learing
all those intricate steps
repeated over again and again
until the movements flowed smoothly

Without effort,in perfect harmony
two bodies moving as one,thinking
as one, committed to a single goal
the survival of the matched pair
was it all for nothing, wasted,

What went wrong, when did it begin,
who lost the beat and stumbled first
not that it matters now in retrospect,
the damage has been done, the errors,
so many it seems, cannot be repaired

Move on, find another partner,
begin the dance anew, a fresh start,
forget the past and the old song,
there is a new orchestra now and,
it’s time to dance.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Very sweet, and sad. Very hurtful times in someone's life. Seems it ends with a look to a new beginning. Nice.

Life's experiences portrayed as a song.  This is well done Pegasus.  I hope the music goes on for you forever.  Love, Joyce

Shara Rose, Joyce, you are very kind.Life after all is a song. We just don't like the words and music sometimes...

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

LOVE the songs, the dance, the partner ... and LIFE !!

Loved your upbeat ending~

pegasus111:  This poem has your own special brand on it.  You have such a way with words and make emotions so visible.  Hope you have that new partner!
