Along the River Road

Along the river road I see,
An osprey's nest, high in a tree.
The osprey makes a sweeping pass,
Across a field of withered grass
And o'er the river, flying low.
It's shadow races down below,
Reflected in the water's face.
The trembling leaves all show a trace
Of autumn color and the smell
Of burning brush piles, casts a spell!

Along the river road, I find,
That harmony invades my mind
And all the troubles of the day,
Just dissipate and fade away.
While sitting still as I can be,
So many scenes unfold to me.
Among the reeds, the small birds try
To catch each insect they see fly.
Upon a bank, some otters slide.
How they enjoy their slippery ride!

The waterfowl of every hue
Sojourn here while passing through
And then there's also elk and deer,
Who are so often sighted here.
I've sometimes seen a big, black bear
And wondered where he had his lair.
How this small Eden calls to me
And someday soon, I hope to be
Establishing a new abode,
Somewhere along the river road!

Marti:  The Panhandle of Idaho is really beautiful country.  Farther south it becomes semi-desert, but I've had enough of that!!  I lived in Nevada for 17 years. I love the moutains, rivers, and lakes.  If you ever come my way, be sure and let me know, as I would love to meet you in person!

Betty Lou...This is so wonderful. I would love to be able and sit in a beautiful place like you describe and watch the wildlife. I could picture in my mind all that you wrote about while reading. Thanks for sharing...Paul

Paul:  I always hope when I write a poem about the natural world around me, that people who read it, will be able to glimpse what I see too.  Your words that you do, are really a reward!  Thanks.

I can smell the brushwood burning. So many beautiful images gives the impression of being there.

Could you please tell me why my poems keep diappearing. This is happening all the time. I have just posted one which came up but by the time I looked another poem it was gone. I know that it will eventually return but sometimes it is near the bottom of the page. Please help. Maggie

Maggie, we don't want to hi-jack Trillium's thread, so why don't you either email me or pose your question in one of our discussion forums? I'll be happy to explain how the "rotation" works. Ain't that tough to understand, believe me.

Better late than never to take such a beautiful stroll with you in one of your favorite places, and Betty Lou it was actually like being right there.  I enjoy your work so much, the tranquility of it never ceases to amaze me, you calm me at least, and I thank you.

I don't want to know where I am going, it'll ruin my journey.

Mysteria:  Your words are so welcome, as I find writing poetry, calms me too, at least most of the time.  Nature poetry does for sure! Of course, I write a lot of it, so you can see, I need that calming influence a lot! LOL. Thanks for strolling along with me!
