The Smiths stood ready with the hammer,
forging gold and steel
mingled melded molded one
yet two souls are revealed

" how can this be? "
one asked in shock

" it impossible! "
says another

" we've never seen the like "
spoke a third to kin and bothers

" We must have used too much ore "
spoke the fourth Smith, old and wise

" perhaps we melted them too hot "
said a the fifth smith with wrinkled eyes

" or maybe this is Destiny? "
spoke the sixth smith with smile slight

" let us send them both to earth and see "
said the seventh smith in white

and so they sent the fashioned souls to earth
in different times and lands
determined to see what Destiny, in her wisdom
now had planned.

years passed by and oft each sought,
the soul made like the other
they found it naught in sun and moon
not in kit nor kin or mother

til one day Destiny appeared,
impatient for a change
and through the ether she did reach
and a meeting she arranged

the two souls met and as was thought
such a meeting lit a fire
one of friendship, one of joy
one of passion and desire

now the Smiths all stand and watch in silence
no longer do their hammers swing
for now they watch the wroughted love
to see what it shall bring

Destiny, she smiles,
and I am certain so would you
because she knows the outcome first
and strives to make it true

A chapter in a tale of love
a beginning here my friends
a journey long awaits us
a journey without end.................

" and I dream of her always,
even when I don't dream.
her name's on my tongue
and her blood's in my stream."

'Christmas in Prison' John Prine

I loved this.

Thank you for the read--I loved the imaginative quality of this, and the wisdom behind it made me smile as well.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
