Morning Glories and Bread

Sweet prairie days still in my heart
Sun soaked landscape true works of art
And in my dreams I venture there
A toe headed girl free from care

Aunt Erma Lou's yard painted bright
Morning Glories charmed birds in flight
Small hands cupped full with crumbled bread
For weary travelers needing fed

Coughing tractors worked nearby fields
While farmers prayed for worthy yields
Soiled overalls brown calloused hands
Bodies bent by the soils demand

Sog Ferrell's grocery down the road
Old farmers gathered for stories told
Chocolate sodas for a dime
A taste that does not leave my mind

Deep Landing for our swimming hole
Served as well for baptizing souls
Upon the banks hymnals in hand
Sweet voices sang of promised land

In just one glimmer sweet days gone
Sun setting fast then came the dawn
In realization I understood
Lifes special gift is ~ childhood

Marge  Coming from you, it was such a high compliment.  Thank you very much.  I wish everyone could have as wonderful a childhood as I had.  I am truly grateful.

missmisery61:  I really loved this one.  Reminds me so much of my own childhood, growing in Alberta. Sounds like manhy of the same experiences.  A lovely poem!

Betty Lou

Thanks so much.  I often wonder if my sons will look back on their childhoods with as much sweetness as I do my own.  I can only hope.  I also wonder if every generation thinks that there were no better times in life, as the period of time in which they grew up in?  I appreciated your kind words.

Thanks Melton.  I've enjoyed and laughed at more than one of yours today!
