The sky is silver-gray tonight,
But there is still a little light,
That shows bare branches of each tree
Like spars above a darkening sea.
Then as I watch, a star appears,
To guide the sailor, as he steers
And also those who wander through
The world at night, so they can view
The life occuring after dark,
When every high and distant spark,
Has meaning only they can know
While watching from their place below.

There is a quality that swells,
When moon and starlight cast their spells,
That speaks of secrets, long unseen,
Bleached of color, sometimes serene
And other nights breathe mystery.
I often wonder what can be
Watching, in the shadowed places.
My imagination races
So many scenes across my mind,
But in reality, i find,
I'm quite content to let the night
Hide all it's phantoms from my sight!
