A Fragile Spell

I heard a song the other day.
An old one that I used to play
On the piano, while we sang.
It caused a sudden, wistful pang,
Because those days have disappeared
And the piano, I revered,
Has long been gone and not replaced.
Our voices that so often graced
The evening hours, silent now.
I wish I could revive somehow,
Those early years, for I recall,
Contentment hovered over all.
Too many problems came to dwell
And broke that sweet and fragile spell!

Betty Lou, what a beautiful piece.  What is it about days gone past that are so heart breaking?

missmisery61:  Thanks for responding and I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. I don't know why the past stays with us so and sneaks up on us sometimes!

The past does have an odd way of sneaking up on you, doesn't it?

I really enjoyed this... Reminded me of my own music hidden somewhere yet to be re-obtained.

Day dreaming is definitely a sweet feeling. Reality haunts us far too much.

Pulled at my heartstrings so much. Choked back the tears. This is so sad. Made me want to pat this person on the shoulder, and tell them it's going to be alright. Ahem..still clearing my throat. :'(
